Interviewer: Doctor, you talk an awful lot about stress. We've talked about it already here. What does it do to your body, and what are some of the other conditions that can lead to too much stress?
Dr. Leonard Coldwell: First of all, physical stress is really never a problem. If you work hard, you carry things all day, and you have a really good night's sleep, you're fine. Physical stress has never been a problem. Mental and emotional stress, meaning, living in constant worries - like the economy, your mom getting sick, losing your job - that drains the energy. Stress is the main energy drainer in this world. Lack of energy is the only cause of illness in this world. There is no other cause.
Now, when we look at the facts, that when you have stress, your entire system goes into fight or flight mode. It shuts off your metabolism, you don't digest anymore and you produce all of these stress hormones that need to be used up. It makes people aggressive and all these other elements. The main thing with stress is, that it dehydrates the system. Dehydration is the only cause of death, everybody at the end of the day that dies, dies of dehydration. That is the final cause of death. You are so dehydrated that nothing works anymore.
Dehydration is the main cause of aging, wrinkles, organs not getting enough oxygen or blood flow, and so on. It's the main cause of high blood pressure, migraine headaches, back pains. Because what do you do when you get stressed? You tighten up your shoulders. Whether you have shoulder pain, or you get neck pain and then you get a headache, it's because you cut off the blood flow and the oxygen flow to your brain. You start not seeing right.
